A Play In One Act
Act One, Scene One
Sarah: A brunette, 30-something, (more 40 than something), mom-of-3, enters a boutique fitness studio. She's wearing the finest of Old Navy workout gear, her floppy bits carefully tucked into place.
Laura: A blond woman, 20-something, (more 30 than something), exuding some of the best energy there is, stands at the front of the room, preparing to teach her first barre class for this studio.
Sarah awkwardly tries to pretzel her legs and plie at the same time. This action squeezes the dialogue from her, as if beyond her control.
Sarah: (some self-deprecating joke).
Laura: (some incredibly kind and genuine words of encouragement).
Act One, Scene Two
Weeks pass, and the women continue to cross paths, and laugh at each other's sense of humour. Sidelong glances become conversations. They discover they are both interior designers, both live in the same neighbourhood, both have a similar life-view, both have renovated a camper. Both like Gilmore Girls. *whispers* And the Bachelor.
Laura: Want to hang-
Act One, Scene Three
Fast forward two years. Scene opens with the two women, sitting on a couch, sharing a bottle of Kim Crawford, sweatpants on, discussing the merits and the dream that is a u-shaped sectional.
Women: Wouldn't it be amazing to design cozy, beautiful spaces for the average person, but be able to work from home, sometimes looking like this? What would that feel like?
That, the women decided, would feel like a beautiful pair of Velvet Sweatpants.
